Privacy at Lumeriad

The promise this site is built on

Your personal information is never sold, shared, traded or rented. Not to anyone, not at any price, not for any amount of money that might one day be offered.

Your name and your birth date are used for exactly one purpose: casting your reading. They are not used for anything else. There is no second purpose waiting in the wings, no partner list, no data broker, no quiet arrangement. This is the founding condition of the site, not a policy I happened to land on.

What actually happens when you cast a reading

You type your full birth name and your date of birth into the form. Those two values are sent to Lumeriad's own server, which does the arithmetic: Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday, Maturity, Balance, your birth grid and its lines of strength, your Personal Year, Month and Day, your four Pinnacles and four Challenges, karmic debts and karmic lessons.

The finished reading comes back to your screen. That is the whole journey. The server does the maths and hands you the answer.

Your reading is not stored. One fingerprint of it is.

This is the part most sites are vague about, so let me be blunt about both halves of it.

Your reading is not stored. There is no table of past readings, no copy of the text, nothing filed away against your name. When you close the page the reading exists where you keep it and nowhere else, so if you want it, save it or print it while it is on screen.

Your birth name and your birth date are not stored either. They are sent to the server, used to do the arithmetic, handed back to you as the reading, and not written down.

One thing is kept, and it is made from them, so I am not going to bury it: a fingerprint of the chart. It exists for your benefit and it has cost you nothing, but it is real, and this page would be dishonest if it still said nothing at all is saved. The next section is what it is and why.

The one thing that is saved, and why it saves you money

Numerology is arithmetic. The same name and the same date give the same Life Path today, next year, and in a hundred years - that determinism is this site's entire argument, which is why every figure is printed with its working beside it.

So charging you a second time to look at your own chart again is charging you for a sum that cannot come out differently. Worse, it charged you for the exact thing I most want you to do: come back, compare the Chaldean column against the Pythagorean one, and read the three Life Path methods against each other. That was the old behaviour and it was wrong.

Now, when you cast a chart, the server keeps one row: the account it belongs to, the day you first cast it, and a fingerprint. The fingerprint is a one-way hash - your normalised birth name, used name and date go in, and sixty-four characters of hexadecimal come out. There is no route back. It is not encryption, and I am not going to call it encryption, because encrypted things can be decrypted and this cannot be, by me or by anyone. It is keyed with a secret held on the server, which means that even the table on its own is inert: someone who stole the database and not the key would have a column of meaningless numbers.

What it buys you: any chart this account has already paid for can be cast again free, for ever, however long ago it was and whether or not you have any readings left. The natal figures will be identical, because they cannot be anything else. The cycle figures - your Personal Year, Month and Day - will have moved to whatever day you are looking on, which is more than you paid for rather than less.

The honest limit, because a claim like this is worth nothing without one. A hash of a name and a date is not a vault. Somebody holding both the table and the server key could test a specific guess - they could ask “did an account here ever cast a chart for this exact name and this exact date?” and get back yes or no. They could not read a name out of it, and there is nothing else in the row to learn. That is the whole of the exposure, it is the price of never charging you twice for the same sum, and you can see the count of your own remembered charts on your account page.

Where your free-reading count lives

Readings need an account, and the count of the two free ones lives on your account record in our database - not in your browser. That is deliberate: a number kept in the browser is a number the browser can change, and it moved here so it could stop being editable at all.

What is on that record: your email address, a whole number counting the readings you have used, which plan you are on, and - if you ever buy anything - the customer id Stripe gives us. Separately there is one row per chart you have cast, holding the fingerprint described above and the day you first cast it. That is the entire contents. Your birth name and birth date are not on any of it: they are sent to the server, used to cast the reading, returned to you, and not written down.

Two cookies are set, both by this site and neither for advertising. One keeps you signed in. One, named lumeriad_seen, records that your visit has already been counted, so refreshing a page does not inflate the visitor number in the footer. It holds a signed timestamp and nothing else, lasts twelve hours, and like the other one it is HttpOnly - no script on the page can read either. Clearing your cookies signs you out. It does not reset your free readings, because those are not kept in your browser any more.

What is counted, and the two cookies that do it

I do want to know whether anyone is reading the site, so Lumeriad counts visits in aggregate. A visit is counted once per browser per twelve hours, using the timestamp cookie described above. What it produces is a number: how many people looked. Not who they were, not what they typed, not what their reading said.

Nothing on this site is loaded from anywhere else. The four typefaces the pages are set in used to be served by Google Fonts, which meant every page view disclosed your IP address to Google. They are now served from this site, so that no longer happens. There are no third-party scripts, no analytics service, no trackers, and no requests to any other company. Every byte you receive comes from lumeriad.com.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own pages, never on this one. Lumeriad never sees a card number and has no field that could accept one.

No advertising, and no trackers

Lumeriad carries no advertising. Not a banner, not a sponsored block, not an affiliate link. There is no ad network on this site, which means there is no third-party script watching you read, no advertising cookie, and no profile of you being assembled anywhere for anyone to bid on.

That is a deliberate choice and it costs something. Advertising is how most sites like this one pay their way, and turning it down means the site is paid for by the people who choose to pay for a reading, plus the owner's own pocket for the rest. It stays that way because the alternative is a page about your name and your birth date with a stranger's tracking script on it, and there is no version of that I would be comfortable asking you to accept.

The practical consequence for you: nothing you type here is ever used to choose anything you are shown, because there is nothing being chosen.

What is running, and what is not

Accounts, the free-reading count, paid plans through Stripe, and an aggregate visitor count are all live. There is no advertising and no analytics package: no ad script, no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no session recorder, no heatmap. The only thing counted is a total number of visits, shown in the footer, which is not tied to you.

Nothing on this page describes an intention. If it says something happens, it happens now - and if that ever stops being true, the page changes before the code does.

Children

Lumeriad is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them. It is a site for adults thinking about their own lives.

Policies do sometimes have to change, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. But the change will not happen quietly behind your back.
