Privacy at Lumeriad

The promise this site is built on

Your personal information is never sold, shared, traded or rented. Not to anyone, not at any price, not for any amount of money that might one day be offered.

Your name and your birth date are used for exactly one purpose: casting your reading. They are not used for anything else. There is no second purpose waiting in the wings, no partner list, no data broker, no quiet arrangement. This is the founding condition of the site, not a policy I happened to land on.

What actually happens when you cast a reading

You type your full birth name and your date of birth into the form. Those two values are sent to Lumeriad's own server, which does the arithmetic: Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday, Maturity, Balance, your birth grid and its lines of strength, your Personal Year, Month and Day, your four Pinnacles and four Challenges, karmic debts and karmic lessons.

The finished reading comes back to your screen. That is the whole journey. The server does the maths and hands you the answer.

Your reading is not stored

This is the part most sites are vague about, so let me be blunt. Your name and birth date are not written to a database. There is no table of past readings with your name in it. Nothing about the reading is filed away against you, because there is nowhere for it to be filed.

When you close the page, the reading exists where you keep it and nowhere else. If you want to keep it, save it or print it yourself while it is on screen.

Where your free-reading count lives

Readings need an account, and the count of the five free ones lives on your account record in our database - not in your browser. That is deliberate: a number kept in the browser is a number the browser can change, and it moved here so it could stop being editable at all.

What is on that record: your email address, a whole number counting the readings you have used, which plan you are on, and - if you ever buy anything - the customer id Stripe gives us. That is the entire contents. Your birth name and birth date are not on it. They are sent to the server, used to cast the reading, returned to you, and not written down anywhere.

Two cookies are set, both by this site and neither for advertising. One keeps you signed in. One, named lumeriad_seen, records that your visit has already been counted, so refreshing a page does not inflate the visitor number in the footer. It holds a signed timestamp and nothing else, lasts twelve hours, and like the other one it is HttpOnly - no script on the page can read either. Clearing your cookies signs you out. It does not reset your free readings, because those are not kept in your browser any more.

What is counted, and the two cookies that do it

I do want to know whether anyone is reading the site, so Lumeriad counts visits in aggregate. A visit is counted once per browser per twelve hours, using the timestamp cookie described above. What it produces is a number: how many people looked. Not who they were, not what they typed, not what their reading said.

Nothing on this site is loaded from anywhere else. The four typefaces the pages are set in used to be served by Google Fonts, which meant every page view disclosed your IP address to Google. They are now served from this site, so that no longer happens. There are no third-party scripts, no analytics service, no trackers, and no requests to any other company. Every byte you receive comes from lumeriad.com.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own pages, never on this one. Lumeriad never sees a card number and has no field that could accept one.

Advertising, told straight

Lumeriad intends to carry advertising from Google AdSense, and I want you to understand the shape of it before you meet it.

Ads will appear only on the library and article pages. They will never appear on a reading, and never on any page where you enter a name or a birth date. Nothing you type is ever used to choose an ad.

The ads will be non-personalized, which means they are chosen by the content of the page you are looking at rather than by anything about you. Here is the honest caveat that many sites leave out: even with non-personalized ads, Google still sets advertising cookies, because it uses them for frequency capping, so you are not shown the same ad endlessly, and for fraud prevention. That is a Google mechanism, not something I can switch off while still running ads, and you deserve to know it is there.

What is running, and what is not

Accounts, the free-reading count, paid plans through Stripe, and an aggregate visitor count are all live. Advertising is not: no advertising script is loaded on this site today, and when it is, it will be non-personalised and will never appear on a reading or on any page where you type your name or birth date.

Nothing on this page describes an intention. If it says something happens, it happens now - and if that ever stops being true, the page changes before the code does.

Children

Lumeriad is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them. It is a site for adults thinking about their own lives.

If this ever has to change

Policies do sometimes have to change, and I am not going to pretend otherwise. But the change will not happen quietly behind your back.

If anything on this page has to change, you will be told before it changes, not after. That is the point of making a promise in public.
