This year closes the cycle. Its job is completion and letting go, and it is often the most emotional of the nine. Finish the manuscript, the degree, the renovation, the case, the long project. End what has genuinely ended: the job you outgrew, the friendship kept alive by history alone, the storage unit, the debt, the resentment. Give things away. Forgive somebody, including yourself.
Refuse launching a major new venture now. Anything begun this year tends to run out of road within months, because the ground it needs arrives next year, not this one. Refuse recruiting a new relationship to avoid grieving an old one.
Early in the year the endings begin, sometimes as one abrupt departure. Midyear is heavy and nostalgic, with old faces resurfacing to be settled with. The final months lighten noticeably, and a real sense of space opens up as you approach a 1 year with your hands empty.
Generosity works unusually well now. So does tidying: possessions, contacts, commitments, files.
The classic mistake is starting the big new thing out of impatience, and then blaming yourself when it stalls. The second is clutching. You hold on to the role, the person, the version of your life that is already over, and the year removes it anyway, less gently. Let go first and the ending becomes yours.
