What you want privately is to be met at the pitch you actually run at. Most days you are translating downward — softening what you sense, delaying the observation, waiting for the conversation to catch up — and what you long for is one exchange where you do not have to. You also want the material that comes through you to reach somebody intact, because you did not ask for the receptivity and it feels wasted stored.
What feeds this is transmission plus recognition. Saying the true thing to a person who does not flinch, and watching it land. One friendship, one teacher, one collaborator who does not need the volume turned down.
The counterfeit is specialness. Being regarded as gifted arrives sooner than being understood, so you may collect people who are impressed by you and stay lonely in the middle of them.
Unfed, the cost is physical before it is emotional. You go thin-skinned and over-stimulated, doubt what you plainly perceived, and manage yourself with whatever dulls the signal. Ground it: a body, a routine, a craft with rules. Then find the one or two people who can hear you at full strength and tell them the whole thought.
