When the room empties and nobody is watching to be impressed, what you want is authorship. The counterfeit is winning. Winning is easy to measure and it arrives faster, so you may spend years collecting positions, arguments and comparisons that leave the appetite exactly where it was. Being ahead of people is not the same as having made something.
Unfed, this turns into contrariness. You start disagreeing on reflex to feel like your own person, refuse help you badly need, and mistake being difficult for being distinct. The cure is unglamorous: begin the thing you keep describing, and let someone else carry part of it.
